Over the previous year Paragon Europe Ltd. has successfully engaged as a project partner and intermediate organization in several Erasmus+ Key Action 1 projects developed by Liepaja Marine College (Latvia) (hereinafter - LMC).
In 2017, Paragon Europe Ltd. organized Erasmus+ traineeships for both the LMC secondary vocational education program "Maritime Transport" (nautical) learners and the first level higher education program "International Transport Organization" students.
For instance, within the framework of the Erasmus+ project for VET "Traineeship of Liepaja Marine College VET students" (No.2016-1-LV01-KA102-022453) six secondary vocational education learners – future ship navigators and ship engineers – conducted a two-week traineeship in Malta, where they had placements with the local Maltese marine related companies.
The learner’s feedback about their traineeship abroad was very positive. When working on small boats and ferried, they learned how to tie boating nots and handle the yachting engine or work on the bridge, found out how the engine and steering mechanisms work, got to know how to check engine mechanisms and oil level, how to properly manoeuvre with the boat, how to get moored and perform other tasks. Also in 2018, two more learners will be able to take a similar traineeship in Malta.
Whereas, five students of the LMC first level higher education programme “International Transport Organization” (specialization – logistics specialist) completed their two-to-five month traineeship at Maltese logistics companies e.g. the international transport and shipping agency EMC Shipping Malta, the sailing yacht and motorboat rental company Malta Charters Ltd., and the logistics department of the manufacturing company Hotset Ltd. The traineeship mobilities were organized through theErasmus+ Key Action 1 project for individual mobilities in higher education No. 2016-1-LV01-KA103-022412. Alike LMC VET learners, the logistics students highly appreciated their mobility experience gained. The students acquired professional knowledge that will serve as the basis for a successful career in the logistics sector, improved their English language skills and received a personal self-development experience - getting to know new culture, finding new friends, growing their independence, working in an international team.
Paragon Europe Ltd. has engaged as a partner not only in organizing traineeships for LMC VET learners and higher education students, but also in organizing training for LMC staff. Within the framework of the project "LMC VET students and staff trainings" (No. 2017-1-LV01-KA102-035254), two representatives of LMC staff improved their English language and professional skills, visiting several Maltese maritime enterprises to negotiate on the opportunities for LMC students to have their qualification training in Malta, in the meantime learning the latest tendencies and requirements of the maritime sector labour market.
